[attr="class","dropfrumbodytxt"]PERSONALITY:
✔ loyal, sympathetic, selfless, charming, elegant, persuasive
✘ sarcastic, critical, devious, vengeful, strong-willed
HISTORY:
"Beware the fury of a patient woman."
Born to Enzo and Maria Viera in the fruitful country of Italy, Lorenza was raised like any other child. She had miles of vineyards to roam with her childhood friends and family. Although an only child, she was never truly alone. Her cousin, Nico, was her closest companion in her early years. Prior to Lorenza's articulation of speech, Nico was known by his full first name, Domonico. As a toddler, Lorenza could not formulate the full word, and created the nickname 'Nico', which is now commonly used, more so than his true name. She was attached to Nico throughout her youth, for she viewed him as a role model since he was a couple of years older than her. He never shyed away from her attention and played with her whenever she desired. But, they had one thing in particular in common -- Romeo.
Romeo was the child of Enzo's best friend, Raphael. Raphael Valenti and Enzo Viera were practically inseparable, and the two often spent time at each others homes along with their family's. The Valenti household was as much of a home to Lorenza as the Viera household was, and Romeo became an attachment. The young Valenti taught her how to ride horses and play sports. They spent their younger years in school together, but everything changed when the Viera's relocated to the United States to a town called Beacon Hills.
The Viera's arrived in California when Lorenza was seven years of age. She was young enough to easily assimilate into American society, for she had been learning English as well as Italian in her studies in Italy, but she was old enough to long for her Italian home. She missed her friends and family, which made it a bit difficult for her to find friends in elementary school. She was never given a reason as to why her family had moved which only upset her further -- her father always told her that it was because of 'business.' Well, most business trips only took a few weeks, but Enzo had to assure Lorenza that they would be living in Beacon Hills for many years for this trip.
Being a foreign student in an american elementary school signed Lorenza up for discrimination. She was not as fluent in English as her classmates, and her strong accent only brought upon more bullying. One person in particular stood up for her against the others, regardless of the fact that the young Viera could take care of herself. Derek Hale stood by her side when the cruel students taunted her, and eventually the bullying died away. Lorenza became good friends with Derek, but she was oblivious to the fact that he was not like her.
Every summer, Lorenza and her family traveled back to Italy. She also ventured back to her home country various times throughout the year, often when she was on vacation from school. These frequent trips kept her in touch with Nico and Romeo, for she spent most of the time in Italy with them. She also visited her godfather, Marco, often when she was in Italy. Things were easy for a few years as she flew through her childhood with ease. She was no longer bullied in school, and made more friends while Derek remained the closest, and she kept in contact with her friends and family in Italy. But, everything changed when she realized that she no longer viewed one of her friends in such an innocent way.
She was only fourteen when she realized that Romeo didn't see her as a friend anymore. His cheeks grew red when they spoke or came in contact, and he would often have to clear his throat to formulate a thought when she was in his presence. Her suspicions were proven correct when he finally built the courage to ask her on a date, and it was all downhill from there. She hadn't thought of Romeo in a romantic way since she had met him, but all of a sudden, it made sense. She fell in love with him easily, for she had already loved him prior to their romantic relationship. They knew everything about each other, and their relationship only made their bond stronger.
But, at the age of 17, things grew complicated. Most of Derek's family was wiped out in a tragic fire, and while being there to emotionally support her friend, Derek finally told her the truth. Derek was a werewolf, and his entire family was just like him. She had never suspected such a thing, and the shock of the news made her a bit distant from Derek for a while. But, it did not take long for her to return to her friend, realizing that their friendship was stronger than that. She needed to be there for him, but he had disappeared shortly after the fire. She was not given the time to help him, or to learn from him. He had left before she could ask any questions, which forced her to do her own research. But, with nothing to go on, she was on her own in deciding what was fact and what was fiction.
Things were tough without Derek -- now plagued with the knowledge of the supernatural and without her best friend, she didn't know what to do with her agonizing questions. She refused to talk to her family or friends about it, for they would view her as insane. She decided to remain quiet about the knowledge for a while, and hoped that one day Derek would return to answer her questions.
A year later, Lorenza was plagued with the most unexpected tragedy of her life -- the death of her father, her uncle, and the rest of their closest friends. Enzo had assured her that he was simply going on a business trip with her uncle Severo, Raphael and various others, but she should not have listened. Enzo never returned, and it was claimed to be an animal attack by the local police. They were found in the woods, with their bodies torn to pieces. She traveled to Italy, where the funerals were held, and found that Romeo and Nico were suffering just as she was. All three lost their fathers in the same day.
Lorenza grew unstable after the death of Enzo. Her mother, Maria, had turned to alcohol to help with the grief, and her drinking became so problematic that eventually she died of alcohol poisoning. As if the death of Enzo was not enough, the death of Maria sent Lorenza over the edge. She could no longer maintain her relationships with others, and decided that ending her relationship with Romeo was in their best interests. She found no comfort in the form of friends or lovers, and kept to herself for a long while. Living in the mansion where both of her parents would never return was difficult, but she could never leave their home. Since she was 18 and the only living heir, the house was put into her name, as were Maria and Enzo's assets.
Now finished with high school with no parents, she decided to throw herself into college to busy her mind. She studied psychology, trying to focus on the human mind so she would not remind herself that humans did not walk the world alone. The Hale fire felt as though it had happened years before. She suspected that Derek's kind had to do with the death of her father, but she had nothing to track the creatures with, and if a group of 15 men had been slaughtered, then she could not stand up against whatever force was out there.
Her suspicions were proven correct years later, when she turned 24. She had finished her masters in psychology, and had reunited with Derek. Her questions were finally answered about werewolves, but not about the death of her father. This came when Romeo traveled to Beacon Hills with Nico and various others. He admitted to her that the death of their fathers had been at the hands of werewolves, and that their families were in a long line of hunters called the Verum Venatores, and that she was the next in line for admittance. She was hesitant at first, but when Romeo admitted that they were after the group that had murdered their families, she could not say no. Now, Lorenza serves under the psychology faction of the Verum Venatores, under Zander, her mentor.
