Marianne McCallister
[attr="class","dropfrumbodytxt"]PERSONALITY:
Mari is often cynical towards other's motives. Living through 'exorcists' and stake burning, she is extremely wary about telling others of her true species. She is known to be private and reserved, but fiercely loyal and compassionate. It is in her nature to guard the supernatural, but it extends to everyone. Her flaws sometimes consist of her stubbornness, her sharp wit, and her strongheaded persona.
HISTORY:
Marianne McCallister was born to a diplomat and a duchess in 1545, Russia as the Romonav family was gradually rising to power. Her parents were loyalists to the Romonav family, thus she was groomed to be a proper lady. However, at the age of 18, already arranged to be married, she disappeared. Drawn to England after a plague outbreak, she felt compelled to arrive there. Without a word or trace, she never spoke or heard from her family again. Upon arriving to Elizabethan England, Mari began losing time. With her inherited wealth she easily accommodated within the higher class. Yet, she felt out of place. She did not know why she came in the first place. She began losing fragments of her memories, sometimes waking up naked in the middle of the woods with corpses around her. One day a group of huntsmen found her and accused her of murder and witchcraft. Thus, an “exorcist” was performed on her. The local people still not being pleased with her exorcism, they agreed to burn her at the stake.
As they proceeded to burn her, it was revealed that the fire did nothing to harm her. The locals screamed about her ember eyes, calling her the devil. Managing to escape in midst of all the chaos, Mari left England and found refuge in Italy. Confused and curious as to what she was and why the fire hadn’t harmed her, she dedicated years of her life trying to find an answer. With a profound knowledge of world mythological lore, everything gave her the same answer – hellhound. Some depicted the legendary creatures as Bearer of Death or Guardian of the Supernatural. Mari never understood what those corpses were doing in the woods where she was found but she was beginning to believe in the supernatural. It began making sense that she was the one who hid the corpses, possibly supernatural beings, to hide them from the human eye. After more extensive research, Mari concluded she was a hellhound. With her knowledge, she learned to master her abilities. Eventually she felt drawn all across Europe, always finding herself in midst of corpses. She was no longer losing fragments of time. Instead she learned to hide the corpses from the human eye, understanding it was her duty as a hellhound. She learned to wield the fire her body emitted and understood why the local folks always had a legend of the ember-eyed monster after she departed from a place.
After living as a nomadic person, Mari settled in Italy. Although Russia was her native country, it was in Italy where she felt most at home. After centuries of doing nothing but protecting the supernatural and being an omen of death, Mari founded a group dedicated to hunting the supernatural alongside a renowned group of special hunters known as the Valenti family. Their new group consisted of humans trained to fight humans from the dangerous supernatural and fight the supernatural. This new group came to be known as the Verum Venatores. She was often drawn to different locations, places where sources of strong magic drew her.
Centuries later, she found herself in America. During the peak of WWII, Mari moved near an internment camp – Oak Creek. She was an omen of death and she knew something terrible was about to occur. It always began with a dream but she had never been capable of stopping them from coming true, but only to cover it all up. She disguised herself as a nurse to stay near the location of her dream. It was there she came upon the kitsune Noshiko Yukimara. Mari kept track of her to try to stop what was soon to occur. She failed at stopping her because after a riot occurred and many died, a nogitsune was summoned and killed almost everyone at the camp, including a Valenti family member. Mari had never encountered such a creature before but her dreams had hinted at it enough for her to commence her research. Upon starting a deadly rampage, Mari managed to escape briefly before she returned to cover everything unusual after Noshiko succeeded in killing it.
Due to her constant moving, she often left complete control of the group to the Valenti family – sons and daughters who excelled at combat and weaponry. Within a decade, she became more of a myth. Eventually many came to believe that the Valenti family were the sole founders of the group and she was the mythical fair-skinned, golden-haired goddess with hellfire in her eyes. Many began to believe she was a symbolic creature meant to give cause to the group, whereas some did believe her to be a co-founder and its guardian. Several decades later, Mari decided to return to Italy and the Verum Venatores under the disguise of a human and Mythological expert. Recruited into the group, she became the Mythology Master and became its guardian once again, unbeknownst to them all.
